Brookline Modern Victorian Phase 2

You might remember this peppy modern victorian, which got a major facelift with the help of my collaborative partner, SLR Architecture. Phase two of this project revealed historical beauty — it would have been a sin to paint such incredible woodwork and detailing and our clients wanted to retain the natural oak and this added to bringing back historical details to life. Other areas on the first floor of the home that were updated for the family, included a rich paneled room for the children to do their homework in, and play instruments and piano.

One of our favorite nooks from this project was featured by Marni Katz in Real Estate by Boston.com and Globe.com.

This victorian entryway was updated with freshly painted walls, and a colorful contemporary side chair accenting the front hall.

This victorian home was updated with a contemporary and rustic wallpaper seen above the original wood paneling. We also added a white flush mount to the entry vestibule to ground the space, and connect it to the foyer.

This window seat located off of the entry was adorned with a patterned navy wallpaper above the existing wood wall paneling of this Victorian home. The window seat was paired with a simple white wall sconce and patterned throw pillows.

This victorian home was updated with ivory paint seen above the existing wainscoting. We updated the fireplace tile to a more contemporary look, and added two flush mounts down the entry hallway to provide softer lighting and texture.

The fireplace seen just off the entrance of this victorian home was updated with blue patterned tile, and the mantel was styled with modern vases to lean towards the homeowners contemporary style.

This victorian home comes with an abundance of character, from the wood moldings on the staircase to the wainscoting seen throughout the house. To soften this appeal we added a light grey houndstooth stair runner.
