Why Renderings Will Elevate Your Design Experience
At Justine Sterling Design we use renderings to help our clients visualize the proposed design
Over the last 30+ years, showing my clients a 3-dimensional visual rendering of an interior space has undoubtedly evolved. I have always loved doing hand renderings, which give us a lot of artistic license, but in the last five years, we have only used 3-D renderings to show our clients a visual rendition of how their interior spaces will look and feel.
Where Renderings Fit in the Design Process
A digital rendering is the final piece of the puzzle for a presentation after the many decisions have been made. Space plans are completed, wall elevations are completed, and ceiling plans are completed, too. Every single finish, fixture, and furnishing selection has to be made before a rendering can be started.
We spend about 12-16 weeks getting to the client presentation, and the renderings begin just two weeks prior.

Spaces that Benefit from a Rendering
Renderings are one of the best tools for explaining a vision to the client. No static 2-D floor plan or elevation can ever have the magic and information a 3-D rendering can.
I usually suggest to our clients which views and rooms of the home would benefit from a 3-D rendering and why. Smaller rooms like a powder room or an entry hall may not need a rendering, but larger areas like the living room and dining room will always benefit from one.
How Renderings Impact the Design Process
When we present to our clients, we gather every material, finish, and image of fixtures and furnishings to present the rooms cohesively. We also show to-scale plans, ceiling plans, elevations, and details, along with 3-D renderings of critical spaces.
Once we have shown the entire design, we walk through a proposal showing the cost of every item presented. This helps our clients make educated decisions as they fully understand how the space will look.

Gaining Confidence in Your Design
The biggest benefit of 3-D renderings is confidence. Clients gain confidence in knowing exactly what they are investing in. The renderings are almost a tangible way to experience their design before actually seeing it in person.
Wouldn't that give you such confidence if you knew you would be given a clear vision of your home’s interior before you begin the process? This is what a 3-D rendering can do – it can give you peace of mind. When you can see the actual chair with the exact fabric, pillow, materials, and samples, it gives you 100% confidence in what you invest in for your home.
