Discover the Top Questions Our Clients Frequently Ask for Expert Insights!

Our client service team fields many questions from clients, as do I when we do our initial consultation. We have addressed four of these common questions that we get asked. Please drop us a line if you have any additional burning questions. We would be happy to answer in a future post.

1. When is it time to bring in an interior designer?

If it’s your first time working with an interior designer, you may wonder exactly how we can help you with your design and furnishings project. Whether you're starting from scratch without any members of your design team or if you already have professionals like an architect involved, it's crucial to understand that everything within the walls of your home falls under the expertise and scope of the interior designer.

We're here to design, project manage, and bring your home vision to life—right down to the crucial finishing touches like art and accessories. Consider it a risk-averse move; you won't have to navigate the countless daily decisions, troubleshoot issues, or handle deficiencies. Our role is to understand your needs through our design process. If you're looking to lean on the expertise of an interior designer and don't have the time for a million decisions, then this process is your dream match!

2. How much do designers charge for their services?

Ask five designers, and you will get varying answers. At Justine Sterling Design, for full-service projects, we charge for our initial consultation, giving valuable advice, defining your scope, and launching your project after the contract is signed. Then we request a retainer that we hold until the end of the project. We charge for all of our time including design and project management time associated with your project. Furnishings and products that we purchase at wholesale are sold to the client at retail (MSRP) less 20%. Retail items will be sold at the retail price.

3. Will we go shopping together?

We rarely take a client to see a piece of furniture in person. Why? Our clients are hiring us to do all the legwork for them, which means we have the expertise and knowledge to know which brands will best suit our client's aesthetic and their budgets. Plus, giving a client multiple options confuses them, and it is a sure way to have them lose trust in you.

4. What is your signature style?

Justine Sterling Design’s signature aesthetic is clean, layered, approachable, modern yet cozy, and filled with texture. We use this overarching approach and translate it into a unique design for each of our client's homes. Our board of styles demonstrates how we create unique interiors for each one of our clients, from Coastal to Modern Heritage.
