3 Interior Design Trends Launching in the New Year

When I work on projects for clients, I am not as much influenced by trends but rather by understanding the styles and aesthetics they are drawn to. However, some trends that feel classic and timeless are fun to draw inspiration from and integrate into projects.

In October, I headed to High Point Market, along with tens of thousands of other designers, to source new products for homes. Read on for details and a few trends for timeless inspiration...

1. Stone Beyond the Kitchen

Yes, we’ve all seen stone materials on furniture before, but I noticed an array of dining tables, side tables, and light fixtures adorned with stone. The pros are that stone typically needs very little maintenance besides sealing and often has an interesting pattern and texture to add visual layering to a room.

Adding a mix of materials in a room is always a good thing, and stone is heavy, making it a safe material on tops for families as opposed to glass.

2. Still Wild for Texture

Rattan, wicker and grasscloth are still in abundance at High Point Market. And the team at Thomas Pheasant and Baker Furniture use textured materials in a clean, modern and unexpected way. They mix grasscloth with carved wood and create interest in the back and sides of furniture, which makes the view of a floating sofa back just as gorgeous as the front.

3. Soft Curves and Shapes

I love incorporating different shapes and forms into interior spaces. I often tell my clients that the varying heights and forms of furnishings in a room make up a landscape, and you need to play on the balance of form to make the room work visually. Read How to Make a Thoughtful Home Furnishing Investment for more tips and ideas.

Now, this trend works with a room's visual and functional needs. The curves are soft and inviting.

It was tough to narrow down my hundreds of photos into just a few highlights and trends from the High Point Market last month. Materials (stone), shapes (curves), and texture (wicker) are three critical components of any interior space. We know how to combine and dose these in the right amounts to create harmony and balance in our client's homes.

We’d love to hear about your next project. So reach out to us, and let’s get to know each other.

Warmly,

Justine
