Harmonizing Diverse Tastes: Our Creative Approach to Designing Spaces for Couples

A home should be a true reflection of the people living in it, capturing their individual tastes and style preferences, right? However, when we delve into the distinct preferences of each partner, we often uncover common ground and unique differences. The magic of design unfolds within these divergent tastes, and our role is to blend and navigate through your preferences with an expert’s eye. Here’s how we approach this challenge…

1. We Always Welcome & Encourage Transparency

I consistently emphasize to my clients the importance of complete honesty throughout the design process. If they dislike something, even after we've explained the reasoning behind our choices, we're more than willing to explore alternative options. Transparent communication is vital for our clients to express themselves fully. I strive for both partners to love each selection, avoiding any compromises, so we consistently confirm that every choice receives approval from both partners.

2. We Meld Styles Beautifully

We thrive on the excitement of working with different design styles and relish the challenge of harmonizing diverse styles and points of view. In the initial Schematic Design phase of Full-Service projects, we meticulously review each room's overall design goals and aesthetics. We use feedback from both partners as a starting point, influencing the project's style, space planning, and design details. Understanding how both clients will live in and use the spaces is a priority from the early stages of the design process.

3. We Tell Couples to Find the Middle Ground & Have Flexibility

During our Full Presentation for full-service projects, after many likes and dislikes have already been confirmed, we delicately meld our clients' design preferences. We encourage clients to hold feedback until each step of the presentation is complete, allowing them to grasp the big picture rather than focusing solely on individual elements. If one partner wants a reconsideration and the other loves an item, it becomes our responsibility to discern the specific dislikes and find a more suitable solution.

We ask about the partners ' likes and dislikes when presenting imagery boards at our Schematic Design presentation. This ensures that we navigate design paths aligned with our client's preferences. The design team frequently refers to the information gathered at this presentation to ensure we meet both partners' design and aesthetic preferences.

Need help designing a home that both you and your spouse will adore? That's our expertise. Reach out, and let's start a conversation.

Warmly,

Justine
