Looking for…

JUSTINE STERLING DESIGN

Discovering home is more than my tagline: it’s the essence of my design philosophy.

Home is not a showroom. It is a tapestry of adventure, memories, and experiences.

Being able to combine both function and aesthetic is the holy grail of all designers. For us, a job well done is when we create a balance of form, function, and feeling.

Looking for something…

Insta-worthy

Hi there! I hit 3500 followers this weekend, and f Hi there! I hit 3500 followers this weekend, and felt that a brief reintroduction and some snippets about the firm and me was overdue for all of you (new and old faithfuls) that are following along here.
🌿 The main focus of my account is the interior design work that we do on behalf of our clients. We have a tag line “Discovering Home”, and that is our goal to help our clients on the journey of self discovery as we all work together to create functional, livable and beautiful spaces for them to reside in.
🌿 I studied for, and have been practicing interior design for about 30 years, working at commercial and hospitality design forms before starting @justinesterlingdesign focusing on residential design in 2008.
🌿 I am originally from Cape Town, South Africa and have been living in Boston for over 20 years.
🌿 My favorite part about being a designer is being able to explore ideas and see them come to life
🌿When I have a creative block I stop what I am doing and read my
online “pile” of design magazines. Essentially going down the rabbit hole of the design world will always sparks new ideas.
🌿 No home is complete without an overriding story. Yes the spaces can be gorgeous and well curated, but people, and their stories found in art, new and old objects and colors
define how they will live in their home.
🌿 The color that I never tire of is white. I know, it’s not technically a color, but it allows me the
opportunity to layer on a blank canvas. I have an uncluttered sensibility and white was
the color that I chose for my own office to create some calm in an often chaotic scene of fabrics, paint chips and blueprints!
🌿 I launched a pillow collection with @housse_studio in 2020. Take a peek at my online shop for pillows and other gorgeous finds that I sourced via Cape Town, SA.
🌿 I have three siblings all in the creative realm of film, fashion and textiles.
🌿 I disabled my private Facebook account today. Yikes, but needed more truth in my life.
So there you have it. I could go on and am here to answer any questions you have on our process, collaboration, ask me anything!

{re} Fresh Friday is here again. 🌿 Swipe to see {re} Fresh Friday is here again. 🌿 Swipe to see the BEFORE. Every Friday I’m showcasing a before and after snippet from a @justinesterlingdesign clients home project. 🌿 It has been fun to go through loads of “before” photos on projects where I often spy my clients younger kids or pregnant bellies during our initial photography walk through. 🌿 Our clients bought this home in the South End in an updated / renovated condition but it lacked personality and needed their personal style injected.

He’s a good man. So much work to do, so much work to do.

Kicking off our work week on a Tuesday. Lots of bu Kicking off our work week on a Tuesday. Lots of businessy things to take of, and a new space planning exercise on the boards, which always gets us excited! Talking of space planning, we made a permanent home for this clients piano that worked perfectly with a new space plan for their living room. It was a bit of of a “game of inches” to ensure that there was adequate flow, but overall the room feels purposeful yet easy breezy and comfortable. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
